The Biddick Rundell Story is a unique story in our family history. In 1840, on a beach near Padstow, Cornwall England, The James and Betsy Rundell Family met the Matthew I and Mary Biddick and a friendship formed. In the 1840's, they started to emigrate to the United States and settle in the Livingston, WI area.
In 1845, Elizabeth (Betsy) Rundell, Daughter of James and Betsy, married George Paul in Cornwall England and they emigrated in 1853 settling in Platteville, WI. George and Betsy had 3 children in England and 1 child in Platteville. One of the children died at sea.
In 1844, Matthew Mark Biddick III married Petronella Hawkins in Cornwall. They emigrated and also settled in the area of Mifflin, WI
In 1865 Charles Paul, the oldest son of George and Betsy, married Hannah Biddick, the oldest daughter of Matthew and Petronella, in Platteville, WI. In 1892, they bought land near Odebolt, Iowa and as they say the rest is history.
Since 1909, the Biddick's and the Rundell's have had an annual family picnic near Livingston, WI. They only missed 1 year and that was 2020. This year, Jeni and myself along with Brother Scott and his wife Doris attended the 113th annual picnic.
Sunday started out with a service in the Old Rock Church near Livingston and then we had a potluck dinner in Monfort. We met many wonderful cousins and they were so welcoming. We had some great conversations and good food.
Saturday we visited Platteville cemetery and the memorials of GGGG Grandma Betsy Rundell, (James is buried in England) and GGG Grandparents George and Betsy Paul. We then went to Mifflin and Visited the memorial of GGG Grandparents of Matthew Mark Biddick III and Petronella. GGGG Grandparents Matthew Biddick II and Mary Tonkin Biddick are suppose to be buried there also but at this time no one has located record of where the grave is.
It was a very enjoyable weekend and will continue to go to the annual picnic.
